About US

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) is as old as the commercial use of electricity itself. It is the oldest, as well as the largest, electrical union in the world.

IBEW Local Union 380, Norristown, PA, was formed in 1930, with only 12 members. Today, Local 380 has nearly 1,000 members.

The National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) represents the unionized electrical contractors. NECA workers on your job site mean experience, excellence, reliability, and the best safety records in the industry.

The long-standing alliance between IBEW and NECA ensures an adequate supply of well trained, highly skilled, and productive electricians to meet the needs of the electrical construction industry.

The IBEW and NECA joined together in the 1940’s to create the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee, the NJATC. Since its creation, the NJATC has developed into what is perhaps the largest apprenticeship and training program of its kind.

Through the NJATC, we attract the most qualified electrical apprentices in the country.

Under this rigorous program, apprentices must complete five years of classroom and on-the-job training before they become journeymen.

Here at Local 380, that means over 1,000 hours of training in the classroom and 10,000 hours on the job. Our training exceeds by 25% the national standards of 800 classroom hours and 8,000 on-the-job hours.

This standardized and extensive training means that you can be confident that all Local 380 journeyman electricians employed by NECA contractors and working on your job site will have the same high level of skills and expertise – with a special emphasis on safety.

And because of IBEW Local 380’s referral system, we can have highly qualified, skilled journeymen electricians on your job site within hours.
